The management of staff performance is a core responsibility of all managers.  To ensure organisations get the best from their staff, it’s important to provide relevant, specific feedback on a regular basis.  Such “1-1 chats” are classed as informal performance reviews however, the organisation may choose to conduct a formal review of staff performance on an annual basis.  Managers responsible for conducting such formal performance reviews should be given guidance on the process to optimise the outcomes from such discussions.

Course Aim:

The aim of this course is to provide managers with the confidence and skills to conduct effective performance appraisals thereby contributing to improved organisational performance.

Course Content:  (Half day or 1 day depending on requirements)


  • What is performance management?
  • The performance management process
  • The difference between informal and formal performance appraisals and how they are related
  • Preparing to conduct a formal appraisal
  • Conducting the interview
  • Completion of appraisal documentation
