It is now recognised that the key to both personal and organisational success can be directly linked to effective communication. Yet, many still have little awareness of how they are perceived by others. Some excuse poor communication style as “just their personality”. However, our personality is only one of the five main factors governing our communication style.

Communication is a skill and like all types of skills can be learned, improved and refined.

Each of the courses listed below, will review the 5 main factors influencing our choice of communication styles, the need to modify our communication depending on the situation or circumstances though the emphasis of each course will be slanted toward the specific areas of development.

Conflict Management

Conflict can be healthy: it clears the air and often results in improved practices and processes. Though if not managed correctly, conflict can spiral out of control resulting in a drop in productivity and morale. Grievance procedures can also result. This one day course will outline the various stages of conflict and conflict management techniques using realistic work based scenarios as a basis for skills practice.

Presentation skills

There are two key ingredients to an effective presentation: the design/content of the presentation and the presentation delivery itself. This one day course will provide delegates with a tried and tested approach to designing effective presentations as well as allowing opportunity for delivery skills practice. Honest feedback will be given in addition to hints and tips to improve delivery.

Conducting Performance Appraisals

In many organisations the value of performance appraisals is undermined due to poorly designed documentation and poor interview techniques. Rather than up-building the individual, the staff member can often be demoralised by the whole process. This one day course will define best practice in designing documentation, preparing for and conducting a performance review to ensure the best outcome is achieved from both parties’ perspective.
