| 1. Rory Keenan |
| |
Had a very good tournament. Big, strong, good hands
- no fault with any of the goals. Nickname Rocky Marshmallow when
he had a go at the Germans ("Lost the plot" strings to mind) |
| 2. Ste McCorrey |
| |
Started off right back. Due to the amount of injuries,
had to go to midfield. Mister Consistent. He has now lost interest
in soccer. Loves cricket now. Ask Dessie and Jim from the Under 12s! |
| 3. Neil Larmour |
| |
Left back. Started slow in every game. But as the
games progressed, came to life. Went on some brilliant runs down the
left hand side without the end product. |
| 4. Ross Jardine |
| |
A rock at the heart of the defence. Four great games,
hardly put a foot wrong. Off the pitch, the Tasmanian Devil took a
long time to settle down. |
| 5. Paul Alexander |
| |
Hillsborough player of the tournament. Led by example
and was the inspiration on the pitch. Along with Ross was the backbone
of the team. Didn't always lead the team off the pitch, but that's
another story (P.S. sorry - stories) |
| 6. Gerard Brammeld |
| |
Went to the tournament with an injured knee. Before
the first game, he had a stiff fitness text but broke down in the
first couple of minutes of the game and was badly missed. Made up
for it off the pitch. Enjoyed his sleep and his very loud snoring.
One of the Spice Boys. |
| 7. William McCann |
| |
Worked very hard up front. Ran the line very well
was very infortunate to pick up a knee injury - one of many. It's
as well Daddy was here to look after him when he ran out of money
and clothes. |
| 8. Brad Bate |
| |
Another one who picked up an injury. William McCann
strapped him up every match and gave his all and was rewarded with
two quality goals. Good luck to him with his trials at Scarborough
F.C.. Very nice person off the pitch and was a credit
to himself. Another one who ran out of money. |
| 9. Ryan Cree |
| |
One of the three younger players in the squad. Started
off centre forward and moved to right hand side of midfield. Ran every
team he played ragged and scored two quality goals. One for the future.
One to watch when there are girls about. |
| 10. Niall Mulholland |
| |
Another young player. Played centre midfield. Ran
his heart out in the engine room and was unfortunate to be sent off
in the second game and he was missed in the third game. The quiet
man but you know what they say about the quiet ones. They're to be
watched.. |
| 11. Ricky Hewitt |
| |
The last of the three young players. Started off
slow in every game but grew in confidence as the games progressed.
Was rewarded with a lovely left foot strike against Lusaka who were
the eventual winners. Kept his promise to his girlfriend - no girls
around him. |
| 12. Ormo |
| |
First three games lacked confidence in his game.
Never showed his potential. Fourth game after a kick up the backside
showed some skills and what he is capable of. The most unorganised
person you'll meet. Spent more time coaching the Uganda team. |
| 14. Neil Curran |
| |
Missed the first two games due to illness but came
back and turned out against the Germans and had an outstanding game.
Had a quiet week due to his illness. |
| 15. Sammy Bradford |
| |
Was used as sub the first couple of games. When called
upon, worked hard for the cause then, like many more, picked up an
ankle injury. Off the pitch, always has an opinion but always put
in his place. For the girls was an old romantic using the chat up
line "I feel I am in the airport and my heart is ready to take
off" |
| 16. Colin Clarke |
| |
Sub goalkeeper but was used as a makeshift midfield
centre forward when called upon. Did everything that was asked of
him. Generally well behaved during the trip but had a night out he
will never forget. |
| 17. Simon Lawson |
| |
Simon came along to help with the off the pitch activities
- water carrier, kit man etc. Gave great encouragement on the line
and was a great asset to have around. Couple of late night sing songs
started by Simon - thankfully outside and away from the school... |
| 18. Mark Dickson (Centre Forward Glenavon) |
| |
The ultimate quiet man. A great person to have with
us. Never loud but passed on encouragement on a 1 to 1 basis. Under
12 kids took to Mark in a big way. Was never late back when the curfew
was on. |
| 19. John Torrans (Coach) (from the pen of William
McCann) |
| |
Super person, super coach - especially in preparation
for the trip. Some ideas for team bonding were superb (sessions on
beaches etc.) A pleasure to be associated with both at games and socially.
Without this man the 19s would have been without half their kit (great
organiser - all 19s turned out perfectly). Inspirational person. |
| 20. William McCann (Manager) (from the quill
of Jake Torrans) |
| |
What a fantastic man. Stamped his authority from
the word go giving a professional attitude to the whole trip. He let
them know who was the boss from the outset and the players responded
accordingly with the same drive, encouragement and enthusiasm showed
to them. Couldn't ask for more. Not only was he manager but he also
had to be a mummy daddy to some of the boys who can't think for themselves.
William organised the whole trip for the Under 19s from getting players
to go to raising money and deserves big praise for all his efforts. |
